Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes spoke to the meida after practice Aug. 11
Patrick Mahomes will start in the first preseason game for the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans Aug. 13.
Mahomes said that he likes to get a couple drives in preseason games to get back in the flow of things.
“It’s just getting that first hit, Mahomes said. “You want to get hit where it’s not too hard, but you can feel it. You go through a long offseason of working in the pocket and knowing the guys are rushing but they can’t touch you. You get in the game and you’re able to get tackled. I like to have one or two drives under my belt to be able to say, I’m ready to go.”
Coach Andy Reid said that everybody will play in the first preseason game against the Saints and said that his message to the players is to make the decision hard on General Manager Brett Veach and himself.
“They’ve earned that right, they’ve made it through this part of camp and have earned the right to play out there,” Reid said. “We’re going to give you an opportunity to get yourself on tape, so prepare and then go shine.”
The new rule that was made by the league is that there is only one date (Aug. 29) to get the roster from 90 to 53 players. Reid said that the coaches like the new rule and thinks it’s a positive thing for the rookies.
“The coaches love it and you get an opportunity to coach the guys all the way through the last game, they get a lot of reps,” Reid said. “I just think that’s a positive thing for the guys to have an opportunity to make a living at this thing.”
