Bills sign Shane Buechele to practice squad and Chiefs sign second year quarterback Chris Oladokun to their practice squad
Two days after the Chiefs waived quarterback Shane Buechele after his preseason performance, the Buffalo Bills signed him to their practice quad.
The Bills have two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster with Josh Allen and Kyle Allen. The signing of Buechele makes sense with third string quarterback Matt Barkley on the reserve/injured list with an elbow injury.
The Chiefs quarterback room behind Patrick Mahomes has Blaine Gabbert and Chris Oladokun on the practice squad.
Oladokun is entering his second year in the NFL. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft from South Dakota State. After a short time with the Steelers, he was signed by the Chiefs in Aug. 2022.
In 2021 at South Dakota State, Oladokun threw for 3,164 yds and 25 touchdowns, rushed for 166 yds and two touchdowns, and caught an additional two touchdowns.
He had a rough start to the 2023 preseason with the Chiefs. Against the New Orlean Saints, he threw an interception late in the fourth quarter that turned into a game winning field goal for the Saints. He ended the preseason throwing a touchdown pass against the Cleveland Browns and leading the Chiefs downfield for a game winning field goal.
In college and with the Chiefs, Oladokun has shown his ability to run and pass, which is something that teams in the NFL like to see in a quarterback. He will be able to sit on the Chiefs practice squad and grow and learn from Super Bowl champion and league MVP Patrick Mahomes.
