Kelce injures knee during Tuesdays practice ahead of home opener against Detroit Lions
After practice Tuesday, head coach Andy Reid said that tight end Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee.
Kelce’s tests revealed that there was inflammation but there were no tears in the knee.
Kelce is now listed as questionable for the Chiefs home opener against the Detroit Lions Sept. 7.
“Next guy steps in and we will roll,” Coach Andy Reid said.
The Chiefs have won games without their star tight end. They have a 12-6 record without Kelce since 2013.
The last game he missed was Dec. 26. 2021 against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to COVID-19. The Chiefs still found a way to put up points and get a 36-10 win.
If Kelce can’t play against the Detroit Lions, the Chiefs will have Blake Bell and Noah Gray at tight end. Mahomes will also have wide receivers Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, Richie James, Justyn Ross, Rashee Rice, and Kadarius Toney to throw to Thursday night.
Reid was also asked again about an update on the Chris Jones negotiations and said that the team is moving on and focused on the guys that they have and getting ready to play the Lions.
“We’re focused on the guys that are here, getting ready to play the Lions,” Reid said. “If you are not there, you’re not not there, that’s the name of this game.”
