Chiefs not taking Jets' defense lightly

The New York Jets are 1-2 and reeling from the season-ending injury suffered by star QB Aaron Rodgers.
As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to head to New York for “Sunday Night Football” in Week 4, they’re not taking this opponent lightly. That’s especially true of the Jets’ defense anchored by star DT Quinnen Williams.
“Yeah well, he’s a fantastic player, All-pro,” Chiefs HC Andy Reid said of Williams. “He’s young and explosive, kind of wreaks havoc inside – and he’s not the only one. They’ve got really two full lines, eight guys, and you could probably add a couple of the rushers outside, so 10 guys that bring it. They’re going to throw fastballs at you. It will be a good challenge for our offensive line.”
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes weighed in, showing respect for the entire defensive unit.
“They’re really good; they’re really good,” Mahomes said on Wednesday. “They’re deep on the D-line, but they’re deep everywhere really. They have DBs, they have linebackers, we have a lot of respect for them, and we know – I’m out there trying to prevent myself from negative plays. Just take those easy positive plays, if you get the opportunity to take a shot, take it, but if it’s not there, then you just have to continue to just drive and grind out points in this game. That’s a really good defense. It’ll be a great challenge for us.”
Reid noted that the team has quite a few good coverage guys between their cornerback and safety room. One of those players even got the best of Mahomes during his college days.
“I think (Jets CB D.J.) Reed got me in college for like a pick-six, so I know he’s good at reading and recognizing routes,” Mahomes said. “(Jets CB Sauce Gardner) obviously had a great year this last year, and he’s going to continue to get better and better.”
They’ll have their work cut out for them on the offensive side of the ball, but they have a lot of confidence and a dominant performance to build on after their win over the Bears in Week 3.

Nick Bolton didn’t play in Week 3, but he impacted the game
Chiefs LB Nick Bolton sat out of the Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears with an ankle injury. That doesn’t mean he didn’t have an impact on what was happening on the field. He had a headset and could directly communicate with Drue Tranquill, who had the green dot for the defense this week with Bolton sidelined.
“I mean Nick’s (Bolton) a very very good linebacker,” Tranquill explained. “He sees the game really well. He was able to give tips, pointers, and reminders throughout the game. That really helped me out there.”
Bolton was absent from practice again on Wednesday, and if he can’t play on Sunday night, expect him to travel and have the same role against the New York Jets in Week 4.
