The 25-year-old returns to practice from physically unable to perform list.
Chiefs defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton returned from the physically unable to perform list Aug. 2 after missing time due to an injury.
In week 5 of the 2022 season against the Las Vegas Raiders, Wharton tore his ACL which put him out the rest of the season.
Some strategies that kept him positive throughout his recovery process was his teammates and his self-motivation.
"Just seeing the guys come in and them seeing me on the training tables and encouraging me to always keep my head up,” Wharton said. “I like to attack everything like a pro, so attacking it, seeing my strides as the months come along and be able to do things that I wasn’t able to do always made me continue to keep my head up and smile through the process.”
His teammates celebrated his return back to the field when he came down the hill to the field for his first day of training camp.
“I just took a moment to take it all in because I have been watching for so long," Wharton said. "I've never had a serious injury and just seeing those guys reaction showed that it's a family here.”
Wharton is preparing for his fourth season with the Chiefs. In his first three seasons in Kansas City he has 64 tackles, five sacks, and three forced fumbles.
With the first preseason game Aug. 13 in New Orleans against the Saints, Wharton said that he has motivation going into this season after watching the Chiefs win Super Bowl 57.
“I’ve made it to a Super Bowl my rookie year, and we didn’t get the outcome we wanted,” Wharton said. “Seeing them win last season, I want to go get one, I want to go play in it.”
